At the Leadership Training course a new entrant female medical student had got her parents to complain to the Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for not taking action for her grievances:The leadership training course for new University entrants is presently taking place at the Air Force Camp in Diyatalawa. A new female entrant who in undergoing had complained to the responsible organisers that she had been bitten by bugs while given to sleep on a rubber mattress. Her complaint had fallen on the deaf years of the officials.
When she complained to others too no redress had been offered to her. She had not been able to sleep on the first night. As an alternative and to take revenge from her the officers in charge had given her a coir mattress with bugs to sleep on. The second day too she had not been able to have any sleep. There had been very visible red scars on her body as a result of been bitten by bugs. The officers to whom she complained had not bothered to listen to her grievances. As an alternative she had rung up her parents who had brought this matter to the notice of the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The parents had thought it is pointless bringing this matter to the notice of those in charge.
The new entrants who are undergoing the Leadership training had complained that they lack a number of basic facilities. There are 700 new entrants in this Air Force camp who are undergoing this Leadership training course.
It is learnt that in order to take revenge from her those in charge had taken steps to provide her with a coir mattress with bugs. When this matter was referred to the co-ordinating group Captain, he had confessed that a deaf year was not turned on to her request, but a suitable alternate solution was given to her complaint. Initially she had said that there had been a rash on her body and subsequently had told there had been red scars on her body and the cause was that it was owing to a bug’s issue.
